Charente Life has been created to fill the gaps between visitors and residents and also between the local French and other nationalities who are often Anglophone or have English as a strong second language.

For this reason the working language of the site and newsletter, and, in due course, our association, is English. However our aim is to include everyone who would like to participate and whenever possible activities will be run bilingually.  The site is effectively a large directory which will be enhanced by various blog items and newsletters.

The concept is the brain child of Vicki Meddows-Smith who has lived in the Charente for over 20 years. Having won an award for a community website in the UK and also having run  a small Chamber of Commerce in the south of England, whose chief aim is to support local businesses, she is committed to doing the same in the local region. In addition, for many years she ran a gite/chambres d'hôte complex in the area and is fully aware of the challenges that are faced by local entrepreneurs.
